New Roof For Dori Monson Features Owens Corning Duration FLEX® Roof Shingles
“It finally happened...we need a new roof...”
At 17 years of age, the Monson family home needed a new roof. The problem began with a small leak over the porch a few years back. A minor repair was made to the immediate area, bringing new life to the aging roof. When the roof began to leak this year in the family’s entryway Valentine Roofing jumped into action once again. Our knowledgeable estimator was able to identify the issue, assess the state of the roof, and provide a professional recommendation for Dori and his family. Our plan of action included a leak stop, keeping the roof protected until our project could begin.
“...and the solution was...”
Cody Williams, an estimator at Valentine Roofing, worked with the Monson family to create a plan of action. The project plan would address any areas of concern while bringing the family’s goals to life. Cody included a ventilation plan that featured a ridge vent to bring Dori’s attic space up to code. Ridge vents are a great way to encourage airflow through the attic. They are more efficient than many other forms of exhaust venting. A ridge vent also provides a sleek finished look by blending into the roof system.
Once a new ventilation plan was in place Cody set to work identifying solutions for the leaking area of the roof. That particular section of the roof is between two dormers. The gutter system diverts water onto the roof resulting in a heavier flow of water in that area. For improved protection against future leaking, Cody recommends an ice and water shield. Ice and water shield will protect the roof deck from excess water. All new metal flashings for the valleys, sidewalls, gutter edges, and other trouble areas of the roof are also included in the project plan. Metal flashings protect against water penetration and add longevity to a roofing system.
The shingles currently on the Monson home were beginning to buckle, after only 17 years. UV exposure along with a rainy Northwest climate can wreak havoc on standard asphalt shingles. To address Dori’s need to use a long-lasting roof shingle Cody recommended the Owens Corning Duration FLEX® shingle. The patented SBS technology of the Duration FLEX® shingle combats granule loss. The rubberized shingles holds granules better through expansion and contraction. This results in better UV protection keeping these shingles at optimum performance for longer!
“There's nobody else I would turn to, to replace my roof than Valentine.”
The project manager worked directly with the Monson family. Project Managers provide timelines, delivery information, and other logistics before our project begins. This project took four days to complete. Our project manager, along with the site foreman kept the family apprised of project progress along the way. Our professional roofing crew started the project by tearing off the old material. Followed by a complete inspection of the entire roof deck. Unfortunately, signs of rot and water damage are not always readily visible during the initial assessment. Once the crew completed tear-off and the inspection of the roof deck, they set to work installing the new roofing system. The new system followed the project plan specifically designed for the Monson home.
The crew doesn’t just clean daily. They meticulously clean the job site, including the surrounding landscaping, at the end of the project. Our goal is to leave the Monson home better than we found it. Communication and cleanliness are two key factors in every successful project. The Monson project was no different. The roof system is impeccable and features clean straight lines along with color matching accessories. This attention to detail provides an elevated and professional appearance. This home was beautiful before. With a new Valentine roof installed it is simply stunning.
“I am confident with their workmanship, the value they deliver, the communication…it’s the Valentine Experience!” – Dori Monson
