The Sales and Marketing Team Learn with Owens Corning Training
As a Platinum Preferred Contractor, Valentine Roofing has access to ongoing and special training from their manufacturing partner Owens Corning. Recently the sales and marketing teams got together with Owens Corning for a Bootcamp style training to review product knowledge, market insights, and deep dive into the roofing needs here in the Pacific Northwest. Ongoing training and extended learning are both important to Valentine Roofing to remain at the forefront of the industry. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the knowledge they need to make an informed decision. Over the course of 4 days, the Valentine Roofing team sharpened their knowledge in several areas and even got a visit from the Panther himself! Let's take a look at this training and learn more about the inner workings of a roofing system and what makes the Duration Series the number one rated shingle in the U.S.
More Than a Roof
At Owens Corning, they understand that when it comes to your home, your roof has to be more than just a roof. Your roof protects your investment, your memories, and your family. That is why, with superior safety in mind, Owens Corning is always at the forefront of technology and innovation in the field of insulation and roofing. In fact, their dedication to top-notch products has won them several awards and landed their Duration series of shingles in the number one spot on the Consumer Reports list for top-performing shingles.
During training, we learned how their innovations don't just stop at performance. Owens Corning understands that a person's home is often an expression of themselves. Our training showed that a roof can perform optimally AND be beautiful. We learned about Owens Corning's emphasis on color with their TruDefination® color blends that seamlessly combine the science of performance with the science of beauty. No other shingle manufacturer offers roofing shingles with the same vibrancy and boldness of color. Ask your Valentine Roofing estimator more about how color and performance can elevate your roof.
Roofing is a System
Our training covered the intricacies that go into building a roofing system. We learned in-depth how the health of the roof is often tied to the health of the attic. Most people think of the roof as just the shingles but the attic space below the roof works in conjunction with the roofing materials to create a long-lasting roof. Our team learned about how the attic plays a major role in the life of a roof. Warm and moist air rises. So the attic space of any home is where the interior moisture, built up through cooking, breathing, and bathroom use eventually finds itself. It is important that a roofing system has adequate and balanced ventilation to eliminate this warm and moist air from the attic. Ventilation reduces and prevents mold which can cause damage to the roof deck, the sub straight that the roof is built upon.
The attic itself should only be a few degrees off from the exterior temperature. This is where we learned that attic insulation plays a huge role in the health of the attic. Attic insulation keeps the climate-controlled air where it belongs, inside the home. This eliminates condensation which can occur when warm and cool air meets, another major factor in mold growth. Attic insulation also creates a more energy-efficient and comfortable home, a major bonus!
Roofing accessories play a big role in the overall performance of a roof. The Owens Corning system features superior underlayments, which act as the waterproof layer between the shingles and the roof deck. The right underlayments, including an ice and water barrier, provide ultimate weather protection. It is also important to install the right starter course for the best shingle seal possible. This prevents water from backing up under the first course of shingles, a major cause for most soffit rot. It also helps fight against uplift from the wind. Finishing the roof with the correct hip and ridge cap will protect the roof from the wind-blown rain when the shingles stop at joining roof facets. Every roof is a system and should be constructed with each part of the system in mind.
Superior Shingle Technology
The duration shingle is number one on the market today, according to a recent Consumer Report. Because of the patented technology, developed by Owens Corning, that goes into the shingle construction. The series of Duration shingles includes five distinct options that all outperform the competition. The SureNail strip is a wide, engineered fabric strip in the nailing area of the shingle for consistent and correct installation, every time. With a wider common bond area and triple-layer protection, this technology provides exceptional strength and wind resistance, up to 130 mph. These shingles also feature TruBond sealant for a faster and stronger bond, even in cold temperatures. This technology prevents uplift and seals the shingles for superior watershed and overall protection and can be found on every duration shingle.
Recently Owens corning added Flex shingles to the Duration line. Flex is Owens Corning's contribution to a better performing SBS shingle. These shingles lay flatter during installation than any other SBS shingle on the market. They withstand bending, even in cold weather, resisting tearing and breaking, unlike other SBS shingles that become brittle in the cold.
Comparing the Duration line of shingles with the competition in a hands-on demonstration showed that these shingles outperform in every category! Having a line of shingles like Duration helps our team provide the perfect fit for every homeowner's roofing project goal.
The 2022 Shingle Color of the Year
Our team got a sneak peek at the 2022 color of the year, Bourbon! This shingle is a rich combination of black and brown complimented by an ever-classic blue. Meant to add richness and depth to the roof, this shingle color is a perfect fit for several different home styles. Our team got to see how Bourbon elevates the Northwest Craftsmen style by highlighting the natural woods and often bold color choices found on this type of home. Bourbon compliments the neutral colors often found on modern homes, a style that is becoming more prevalent here in the Northwest. And for the eclectic homeowner, this shingle compliments fun pops of color like salmon, orange, and even the newest metal trend, bronzy golds. We are especially excited for this color in the Pacific Northwest where vibrant and deep colors often play a large role in the exteriors of our Northwest homes. Our team is excited and ready to help our customers make bold choices in 2022 with the Owens Corning Shingle Color of the Year, Bourbon!
Our Valentine Roofing team is ready to take on 2022 and help our customers make the best choice for their next home improvement projects.
