Bridge of Promise Visits
We Welcome Bridge of Promise
We had the honor of hosting our friends and partners at Bridge of Promise for a day of learning about roofing. Staff and members joined us at Valentine Roofing for engaging activities that combined fun with educational opportunities. Our goal was to create a day that was inclusive, coupling social interactions with learning basic roofing skills and information. The Bridge of Promise members and staff from both the Kent and Bellevue locations participated.
For a Day of Learning
Our day started out with roofing 101 in the form of creating and designing birdhouses. Together we built the structure of the roofs, learning about pitch and roof styles. Once the roofs were in place the real fun began. Each member had the opportunity to design and install a new roof system utilizing a variety of roofing materials and/or roofing colors.
Members and staff learned how each layer of a roof works to protect the structure below. When learning about each material, we talked about their purpose and felt the differences between each one. Once materials were chosen then color and design came into play, resulting in unique creations. Just like any home, every roof was different, playing a role in the overall finished look of the birdhouse!
And a Day of FUN
After we learned about roofing it was time to practice some skills and movement in the form of dancing. We created dance moves that mimicked movements on a roof and at a job site. We safely climbed ladders, learned how to move side to side on a roof, toss old roofing material into a waste container, hammer a nail, and more. Just like on the job site, these new moves really worked up a sweat!
Following our roofing dance break, we finished our day with roofing bingo. Each bingo card contained words of items, materials, and equipment used to install a new roof. Members learned about the tools we use at Valentine Roofing to keep employees safe and install new roofs. The room was abuzz with excitement as every BINGO resulted in prizes like water bottles, new hats, and hoodies.
Thank You!
We ended our day of 'training' by inviting our new friends to become a part of Valentine Roofing's honorary Peace of Mind roofing crew. Our invitation was met with an enthusiastic yes. The new crew joined us for a crew photo before we said goodbye with customized cookies, provided by Pinewood Baking. Everyone from Bridge of Promise members and staff to Valentine Roofing employees had an amazing day.
